Nissan traces its history back to 1911, although the company started out as the Kwaishinsha Motor Company and has worn a number of different names since then. Here in the United States, Nissan sold cars under the Datsun brand from 1959 through 1986. The company quickly expanded its U.S. business after its 1959 debut, becoming the country’s No.1 vehicle importer in 1975. By 1980, though, Nissan had begun building its vehicles in the United States (but still selling them as Datsuns for U.S. drivers).Today, as Nissan, the automaker's strong manufacturing presence in this country is well matched by its impressive presence on U.S. roads.
